The Grandville Girls Cross Country team dominated the competition at the Division 1, Region 3 Meet in Portage on Saturday, earning the Regional Championship. Grandville scored 61 points to secure the top spot. Grand Haven came in 2nd with 92 points, and Hudsonville was close behind with 100 points. Freshman Madison Troy led the team with a 2nd place overall finish, running a personal best time of 18:14. Despite the fact that Junior Valerie Wierenga has been battling an injury, she dug deep for a 4th place finish, running a solid 18:44. Senior Allie Utting had her best ever showing at the Regional Meet, finishing in 19:30 for an 8th place finish. Sophomore Emily Sinclair, Freshman Alaina Carpenter, and Freshman Isabella Moayer showed great teamwork, running together in a pack from the starting line to the finish chute, finishing 23rd, 24th, and 26th, respectively. Emily ran a 20:40, her second best time of the season. Alaina ran a personal best 20:42, while Isabella ran her second best time of the season with a 20:43. Rounding out the top 7 was Freshman Sophie Kaminiski, running a solid 21:45. The girls are excited to travel to the Division 1 State Championship next Saturday, November 1.
